Honor a Soldier or Veteran with a Memorial / Honorary Gift to the American Red Cross!

When asked what they know about the American Red Cross, people typically say it provides disaster relief services and conducts blood drives. But those who visit Red Cross headquarters in Washington, D.C., and gaze at the neoclassical marble buildings and bronze memorials will come away with a different impression—of an organization rooted in service to the military forces of the United States. The Red Cross Spirit by Felix de Weldon, Bronze and marble, 1959

Red Cross support of the armed forces can be traced back to the Civil War, when the future founder of the organization, Clara Barton, took it upon herself to provide supplies and nursing services to soldiers on the battlefield. Meanwhile, European nations were drafting and signing the Treaty of Geneva, aimed at protecting wounded and sick soldiers and the relief workers who come to their aid under the emblem of the Red Cross.

When you pay tribute to a Soldier/Veteran with an Honorarium or Memorial to the Madison/Marshall County Chapter, your gift ensures that caseworkers will be there, providing more than 1500 communications between the service members and their families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Military members stationed all over the world can send and receive messages to loved ones back home during an emergency or life-changing event. Other services available: access to financial assistance, counseling and assistance to veterans. Both active duty and community-based military can count on the American Red Cross.
