Classes are
typically held during the early Spring - February
through May - usually before the Memorial Day Holiday
with training conducted at local pools.
The classes are
32 hours in length and include First Aid and
Professional Rescuer CPR/AED training.
The Lifeguarding
certification issued includes First Aid which is valid for
3 years from course completion date and also the
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification which is
valid for 1 year from course completion.
To keep your
American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification current you
will be required to take the 9 hour
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
class each year.

Lifeguarding class
fees will vary due to differences
in the pool and instructor fees. There are two separate
fees for Lifeguarding, the American Red Cross fee of $100.00,
which includes course materials, and a separate
pool/instructor fee payable to the pool.

Submit
prepayment to the American Red Cross. Call the
pool first! You can
enroll online with the Red Cross and your mask and
training manual will be at the pool on the first day of
class. To enroll, simply follow the
link on the class flyer (in the
Schedule Column, right).

Pretest
Requirements
-
Minimum
age of 15.
-
Swim 300
yards continuously.
-
Starting
in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or
breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a
10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20
yards back to the starting point with the object and
exit the water without using a ladder or steps,
within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Requirements

Attend all class
sessions.

Demonstrate
competency in all required skills and activities.

Demonstrate
competency in the three final skill scenarios.

Correctly answer
at least 80 percent of the questions in the three sections of the final written exam.
