The American Red Cross Lifeguarding
and Swimming and Water Safety
programs are nationally recognized!
That means once you receive
certification, you’ll be eligible to
work throughout the United States.
If you’re at least 16 years old and
a proficient swimmer, you can become
an American Red Cross Water Safety
Instructor. Learn to teach children
and adults to swim, and give water
safety presentations to kids and
their parents. It’s a fun and
meaningful job.

Instructor
This course is designed
to train instructor candidates to teach water safety,
including the Basic Water Rescue course, six levels of the
Learn to Swim and Parent and Child Aquatics
Prerequisites
Certification
requirements

Complete all reading
assignments.

Attend and actively
participate in all course sessions.

Successfully complete
class activities, including the required
practice-teaching assignment.
-
Score at least 80
percent on the Water Safety Instructor Course final
written exam.

Demonstrate maturity
and responsibility throughout the course.

Instructor:
Authorization is for 2
calendar years. All authorizations expire on December 31 of
each year. Initial authorization may be for less or more
time depending on when training is completed.
