
Community Volunteer Services Opportunities
School First Aid Room Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to staff First Aid Rooms in 20 area schools.
One of our largest volunteer service programs; volunteers (moms,
dads, and grandparents) provide care and comfort to sick and injured
children, notify parents of illness and injury, keep the school
health records, and refer situations to the school administration,
as necessary. School First Aid Room volunteers are required to
be trained in Red Cross First Aid.
Hospital Volunteers
Volunteers provide a variety of services to enhance patient care and
family support in several Huntsville area medical facilities. The
Red Cross volunteer program provides a liaison with the hospital(s)
to determine volunteer schedules and responsibilities.
Skills
-Must be 18 years old (Must be 21 years old in some areas)
-Must be able to work with a diverse group of people
-Must be able to follow instructions and protocols
-Must undergo HIPAA, Security and other training (usually
online)
-Must be reliable and work according to a mutually acceptable
shift
-Must be able to work a minimum of 3-4 hours per week
Community Education Volunteer
This important volunteer position provides
information to the community & groups about the mission of the Red
Cross and key components of emergency preparedness. We are looking
for volunteers to attend events
throughout the community, to hand out important preparedness, and
safety information, and represent our Chapter in answering questions
about the organization. Hours are flexible.
You will speak at businesses, clubs, schools,
civic organization, etc. The Red Cross will provide materials,
posters and videos to support you!

RSA-Fox Health Care Facility
The American Red
Cross is chartered by Congress to provide humanitarian services to
members of the military and their families. Volunteers at Redstone
Arsenal Fox Health Center provide indirect services such as
assisting with medical records, working in the pharmacy, and/or
clerical functions. Volunteers in this area must have a valid
military ID card
CHAPTER SUPPORT
Chapter Front Desk Receptionist
Greet customers that call or walk into the Chapter and referring
them to the appropriate area and/or person. Answer the switchboard
phone, referring calls to the appropriate place. Duties Include:
Greet and direct walk-in customers. Wear Red Cross identification
and greet all customers with a courteous, helpful manner. Good
communication skills Must have a friendly, positive attitude.
Ability to interact with all kinds of people. Must be dependable .
Data Entry Volunteer
Assisting Office personnel with data input. Complete HCMS software
training. Enter /Process volunteer data into HCMS system.
Communicate any progress/ problems with Volunteer Services
Staff .Update and maintain volunteer information on HCMS System.
Knowledge
of computers and software. Ability to learn and use Red Cross
programs. Ability to maintain confidentiality of data. Detail
oriented. Ability to communicate & work well with other volunteers
and paid staff. Must be able to schedule
a weekly 4 hour commitment
to complete data input during the hours of 8:30 am-4:15pm
Fund Development Volunteers
Fund Development volunteers are needed to help with special events,
contacting sponsors, thanking donors, and making phone calls. Fund
Development is essential to bring in the donations
that make our services possible. If you have an interest or
experience in public relations, customer service, or communications,
this is the place for you.
Leadership Opportunities
If you’ve worked in the business world, effectively run a household,
been a captain or coach of a sports team, you may have the
leadership and management skills that can help the Red Cross.
Volunteer leadership positions include planning volunteer events
such as recognition programs; interviewing, orienting and training
new volunteers; coordinating blood drive staffing; and
record-keeping. Positions are available now, so call or e-mail for more

BLOOD SERVICES
Greeter
This volunteer position plays a vital role and is the initial
contact for
our blood donors. As a greeter, you will be
responsible for greeting the Blood donors directing donors through
the registration process. At bloodmobile sites, the
volunteer will also assist with the donor flow.
Canteen Volunteer
Canteen Volunteers will assist the donors in the "Canteen" area of
the blood center and bloodmobile. Responsibilities include: greeting
the donor; helping them after they have given a blood donation;
serving food and drink and watching the donors for reactions to the
blood collection and alerting the collection staff.
Time
commitment for Greeters & Canteen: Donor Room-One Time a Week, a 3-4
Hr Shift. Bloodmobile- Is very flexible, you choose the locations
and times that work with your schedule.
