Disaster &
Emergency Services Volunteer
Red
Cross Disaster Relief focuses on meeting the emergency,
disaster-caused needs of individuals and families. Assistance
may include a safe, dry place to sleep, warm meals, health and
mental health services, referrals to other locally available
assistance, and help with recovery planning. We may also
feed emergency workers, and handle inquiries from concerned
immediate family members. All assistance is based on verified,
disaster-caused needs and all assistance is free—a
gift made possible by generous donations from people like you.
BELOW ARE JUST
A FEW OF THE MANY OPPORTUNITIES
(Training and Background
Check required and provided for all Volunteer Positions)
Disaster Action Team:
Local volunteers can provide important
services to victims and first responders as part of the Red Cross
Disaster Action Team. Learn what you can do to support your Red
Cross and how to support the victims of a disaster.
Once you have received all the Disaster
training you can be part of a team on a one week rotation that
responds to house fires and other local disasters. Responsibilities
would include being on-call 24 hours a day, for a week at a time,
approximately once every three months, and responding to disasters
when contacted by a Team Leader. At the disaster site you will fill
out appropriate paperwork to aid the victims and provide them with
emergency food, clothing and shelter. You also will provide fire
fighters and other emergency responders with food and refreshments.
Disaster Office Aide:

assemble class packets, perform general office duties, stamp
brochures, and assemble disaster safety information to distribute in
the community as necessary.
Disaster Logistics Volunteers:

organize the warehouse, educational materials and maintain supplies
to enable our Chapter to prepare for and respond disasters.
Shelter Workers:

to respond in times of disaster. Once trained, the volunteers will
assist and interact with a diverse group of people that come to the
shelter in
times of disaster.
Community Disaster Education Outreach:
Help your community by helping them become prepared.
Volunteer to teach others about preparedness. Volunteers will
participate in activities such as presentations, community events,

Half
the nation's blood supply— six million pints
annually—is collected by more than 155,000
Red Cross volunteers .
-
Among
our emergency services for the men and women of the armed forces
is the delivery of urgent family messages—around the clock and
around the globe.
-
More
than 30,900 volunteers serve as chairs, members of boards of
directors, or on advisory boards for local Red Cross units -
chapters, Blood Services regions, and military stations.

As
part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement,
Red Cross reconnects more than 8,000 families separated by
